Carson Cohen

Carson Cohen, a native of Los Angeles, was born with music in his blood. Both parents were ethnomusicologists with numerous books published, and his uncle was a member of The Wrecking Crew, the prolific group of L.A. session musicians who played on countless records in the 60s and 70s. Drawn equally to rock, folk, country, jazz, and classical music, Carson began taking music seriously at age 11.

Carson began a full-time music career in 2001. Since then he has performed on stage with Alanis Morissette, Sara Bareilles, Colbie Caillat, Meiko, Jason Reeves, and countless others. As a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, he has performed in 46 states in the U.S., as well as Canada, Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Denmark, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Poland, Norway, Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, Japan, and Australia.

Also a student and researcher, a 10 year collaboration between Norm Cohen, Carson Cohen and Anne McLucas produced “An American Singing Heritage: Songs from the British-Irish- American Oral Tradition as Recorded in the Early Twentieth Century”. Published by MUSA in 2021, this work won the Claude J. Palisca award from the American Musicological Society, and Best History in the category Best Historical Research on Recorded Country, Folk, Roots or World Music in the 2022 Association for Recorded Sound Collections Awards for Excellence.
