Joel is a versatile singer who finds his musical passions in both the medieval and the modern. Fully immersed in music since childhood, from his early days as a soloist in the grammy award-winning Texas Boys Choir to more recent performances with highly praised early music ensembles such as the Boston Camerata, he is now completing a Doctorate in Musical Arts in Early Music Performance at USC’s distinguished Thornton School of Music.

Joel first studied early music at the University of Texas with Daniel Johnson. He has performed at the San Francisco Early Music Society's Berkeley Festival and Exhibition, the Amherst Early Music Festival, and the Boston Early Music Festival with Early Music America's Young Performers Festival Ensemble. Earlier this year Joel traveled to France and Finland to sing with the highly acclaimed early music ensemble, the Boston Camerata. The group performed with the dancers of the Tero Saarinen Company in a show titled "Borrowed Light" which was named one of the top 10 best shows of 2006 by New York Times critic John Rockwell.

His flexibility as a singer and musician has led him to many opportunities in the studio as well as the stage. On the modern side of music, Joel has recorded numerous albums as a backup singer with prominent and up-and-coming rock/pop bands such as …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, and Paul Banks & The Carousels. Joel also backs up singer-songwriters based in Nasvhille, Austin and Los Angeles.
